MARIA JOSE MEDEIROS (Nee Pereira) It is with deep heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother on Monday, February 21, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. Maria was born on November 14, 1935 in San Miguel, Acores, Portugal. In 1960 Maria moved to Winnipeg with her husband Aboim to start their new life in Canada. Maria was predeceased by her father Luis Pacheco. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten by her husband Aboim, son Louis (Adriana) and daughters; Maria Donatilde (Wilfred) Makus and Nelia (Joe) Reis, five grandchildren; Kayla, Justin, Jennifer, Meagan and Christopher. Also left to mourn is her mother Sofia Pereira, two sisters; Donoria (Manuel) Almeida and Donatilde (Jose) Costa, one brother Candido (Maurina) Pereira, special Godchild Dina Oliveira, her very dear friend Maria Carvalho plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Maria was a friend to everyone she met, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. She was a women of integrity and honesty that lived life to the fullest, always putting her family and friends first. She worked at Pinkham School (Wpg. Div. #1) for 24 years in the breakfast program, a job she adored, being with the children of her community. Prayers were held on Thursday, February 24, at 7:45 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros officiating. Interment to follow in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Wong, Dr. Leipsic and staff of the St. Boniface Hospital, CancerCare Centre and Ward 5A for all their tender loving care. Donations may be made in Marias memory to the CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Wpg., R3E 9Z9 or to a charity of ones choice.
